The EU and Local Governance: YOUR views solicited

The European Commission has launched a worldwide public consultation in order to gather views from a wide range of stakeholders on key questions related to local governance and development. The background paper below explains the issues in more detail, whilst the issues paper focuses on several key questions on which the European Commission is asking for feedback. The public consultation will run from 22nd May to 16th June. We would appreciate very much your contribution as stakeholders regarding future EU Policy in the field of local Governance. This consultation is a real opportunity to influence EU policy and contribute to a more harmonised approach to development co-operation in this field, in line with the principles of the Paris Declaration.

If you wish to take part in this consultation:

  1. Please download the Background and Issues paper.
  2. Please fill in the empty boxes below the discussion points on pages 7, 8, 9, 11, 12 and 13 of the Issues paper in the areas for which you wish to contribute
  3. Finally please return the document before the 16th June to

Following 16th June the survey will be closed. The results of the consultation exercise will feed into the preparation of a new European Commission Communication which is expected to be published in July 2008.
